If you happen to be looking for an amazing winter escape that’s seriously under-the-radar, check out Jashita, a 23-room beachfront hotel located about 15 minutes north of Tulum. I visited Jashita last fall,  here’s the scoop with my pics. Happy Valentine’s Day!

The 23-room hotel was previously the vacation escape of the Italian owners. Two years ago they decided to transform the property into a retreat adding two new buildings. With an enviable location on quiet Soliman Bay, Jashita is set right on the beach, the only hotel in a mellow residential neighborhood. From the global design to the Italian-Mexican  food to the architecture, everything is the vision of the owners. The result is a hotel that feels very personal. “Jashita is my home, so I always feel like I am welcoming guests into my home,” explains the owner and manager Tommaso Marchiorello.

Protected by a reef, the water is shallow and totally calm making it ideal for paddleboarding and snorkeling . Paddle to the end of the cove on the right and you’ll find a beachside restaurant with serving up grilled lobster to tables set in the sand.

With a killer margarita, a serious breeze, and an uninterrupted view of the ocean, the shaded hammocks are the place to hang.

The owners designed the hotel from the ground up and the style is masculine and modern–think four-poster beds, boxy sofas, and a neutral palette

The Aphrodite suite has three private terraces and the incredible views.

Groovy interior lounge space features a global mix of furniture. Love the vintage door reborn as a coffee table.  Great idea to take home..

The palm trees grow right through the restaurant. The Italian-Mexican fusion menu uses lots of fresh, local fruits and veggies, with fresh fish that the owner Tommasso often catches himself while spearfishing.  When Tommasso was told by his doctor to eat less pasta, he worked with the chef to create some amazing vegetarian dishes. A vegan take on spaghetti in which strips of vegetables are boiled, is something I need to get the recipe for. Probably one of the best veggie dishes I’ve ever had.
