There is something moody and magical about the spaces designed by Roman & Williams. The husband and wife design duo Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer are behind some of the world’s coolest hotels including Viceroy Central Park or the Ace hotels in New York and New Orleans, or the Hotel Emma. Even when their spaces are set in new backdrops like the Viceroy, they don’t have that cookie cutter everything-is-new feeling, instead their spaces feel like they have history. From the architecture to the furniture the mix of new and old (or just designed to look vintage) is always captivating. Take their latest hotel project, the 20-room Greydon House in Nantucket set in two buildings, a new three story backdrop paired with an 1850s Greek Revival House, the hotel manages to capture the nautical spirit of the 19th-century whaling seaport while adding a sense of drama.
